A Builder builded a temple,
He wrought it with grace and skill;
Pillars and groins and arches
All fashioned to work his will.
Men said, as they saw its beauty,
“It shall never know decay;
Great is thy skill, O Builder!
Thy fame shall endure for aye.”

Mọi người nhìn ngắm ngợi ca:

A Mother builded a temple
With loving and infinite care,
Planning each arch with patience,
Laying each stone with prayer.
Một bà Mẹ xây ngôi đền
Bằng tình yêu với tay hiền chăm nom
Lấy lòng kiên nhẫn làm vòm
Lấy lời cầu nguyện làm hòn đá hoa.
None praised her unceasing efforts,
None knew of her wondrous plan,
For the temple the Mother builded
Was unseen by the eyes of man.
Nào ai ca ngợi công bà
Công trình tuyệt diệu ai mà biết đâu
Vì đền Mẹ dựng từ lâu
Người thường mắt chẳng khi nào nhìn ra.
Gone is the Builder’s temple,
Crumpled into the dust;
Low lies each stately pillar,
Food for consuming rust.
Đền nhà kiến trúc tiêu ma
Tan thành cát bụi thật là thảm thương
Cột kèo gãy đổ ngổn ngang
Làm mồi rỉ xét tan hoang sau này.
But the temple the Mother builded
Will last while the ages roll,
For that beautiful unseen temple
Was a child’s immortal soul.
Nhưng ngôi đền Mẹ dựng xây
Mãi tồn tại với tháng ngày dần trôi,
Đền vô hình chính là nơi
Linh hồn bất tử của người con thơ.
