Verse 306. Liars Suffer Tortures Of Hell
With one denying truth there goes to hell
that one who having done says ‘I did not’.
Both of them are making kammas base
are equal after death.
“Nói láo đọa địa ngục
Có làm nói không làm,
Cả hai chết đồng đẳng,
Làm người, nghiệp hạ liệt.”

- Thường nói lời vọng ngữ, có làm mà nói không; người tạo hai nghiệp ấy, chết cũng đọa địa ngục.
Verse 307. Evil Men Get Born In Bad States
Many who wear the yellow robe
are unrestrained in evil things,
these evil ones by evil deeds,
in hell do they arise.
“Nhiều người khoác cà sa,
Ác hạnh không nhiếp phục.
Người ác, do ác hạnh,
Phải sanh cõi Ðịa ngục.”

glowing as flame of fire
than one should eat country’s alms
immoral and unrestrained.
“Tốt hơn nuốt hòn sắt
Cháy đỏ như than hồng,
Hơn ác giới, buông lung
Ăn đồ ăn quốc độ.”

- Phá giới chẳng tu hành, thì thà nuốt hoàn sắt nóng hừng hực lửa đốt thân còn hơn thọ lãnh của tín thí.
Verse 309. The Man Who Covets Another’s Wife
Four things befall that heedless one
sleeping with one who’s wed:
demerit gained but not good sleep,
third is blame while fourth is hell.
“Bốn nạn chờ đợi người,
Phóng dật theo vợ người;
Mắc họa, ngủ không yên,
Bị chê là thứ ba,
Ðọa địa ngục, thứ bốn.”
Explanation:
Four things befall that heedless one sleeping with one who’s wed:demerit gained but not good sleep, third is blame while fourth is hell.
- Buông lung theo tà dục, sẽ chịu bốn việc bất an: mắc tội, ngủ không yên, bị chê, đọa địa ngục.
Verse 310. Shun Adultery
Demerit’s gained and evil birth,
scared man and women – brief their joy,
the king decrees a heavy doom:
so none should sleep with one who’s wed.
“Mắc họa, đọa ác thú,
Bị hoảng sợ, ít vui.
Quốc vương phạt trọng hình.
Vậy chớ theo vợ người.”
Explanation:
Demerit’s gained and evil birth, scared man and women-brief their joy, the king decrees a heavy doom: so none should sleep with one who’s wed.
- Vô phước, đọa ác thú, bị khủng bố, ít vui, quốc vương kết trọng tội: đó là kết quả của tà dâm. Vậy chớ nên phạm đến.
Verse 311. Wrong Monastic Life Leads To Bad States
As blady grass when wrongly grasped
the hand does lacerate
so a mishandled monastic life
drags one off to hell.
“Như cỏ sa (1) vụng nắm,
Tất bị họa đứt tay
Hạnh Sa môn tà vạy,
Tất bị đọa địa ngục.”

- Cũng như vụng nắm cỏ cô sa (kusa = cỏ thơm) thì bị đứt tay, làm Sa môn mà theo tà hạnh thì bị đọa địa ngục.

Whatever of kammas slacks,
whatever of vows corrupt,
a faltering in the holy life
never brings ample fruit.
“Sống phóng đãng buông lung,
Theo giới cấm ô nhiễm,
Sống Phạm hạnh đáng nghi
Sao chứng được quả lớn?
Explanation:

- Những người giải đãi, nhiễm ô và hoài nghi việc tu phạm hạnh, sẽ không làm sao chứng thành quả lớn.
Verse 313. Do Merit With Commitment
If there’s aught that should be done
let it be done then steadily,
in truth a slack monastic life
all the more stirs up the dust.
“Cần phải làm, nên làm
Làm cùng tận khả năng
Xuất gia sống phóng đãng,
Chỉ tăng loạn bụi đời.”

which done, does not torment.
“Ác hạnh không nên làm,
Làm xong, chịu khổ lụy,
Thiện hạnh, ắt nên làm,
Làm xong, không ăn năn.”

- Không tạo ác nghiệp là hơn, vì làm ác nhất định thọ khổ; làm các thiện nghiệp là hơn, vì làm lành nhất định thọ vui.
Verse 315. Guard The Mind
Even as a border town
guarded within and without,
so should you protect yourselves.
Do not let this moment pass
for when this moment’s gone they grieve
sending themselves to hell.
“Như thành ở biên thùy,
Trong ngoài đều phòng hộ
Cũng vậy, phòng hộ mình,
Sát na chớ buông lung.
Giây phút qua, sầu muộn.
Khi rơi vào địa ngục.”
Explanation:
Even as a border town guarded within and without, so should you protect yourselves. Do not let this moment pass for when this moment’s gone they grieve sending themselves to hell.
- Như thành quách được phòng hộ thế nào, thì tự thân các ngươi cũng phải nên phòng hộ như thế. Một giây lát cũng chớ buông lung. Hễ một giây lát buông lung là một giây lát sa đọa địa ngục.
Verse 316. False Beliefs Lead To Hell
They are ashamed where shame is not
but where is shame are not ashamed
so by embracing evil views
beings go to an evil birth.
“Không đáng hổ, lại hổ.
Việc đáng hổ, lại không.
Do chấp nhận tà kiến,
Chúng sanh đi ác thú.”

Do chấp nhận tà kiến.
Chúng sanh đi ác thú.”

Không lỗi, biết là không,
Do chấp nhận chánh kiến,
Chúng sanh đi cõi lành.”
