- The Gold Weasel – Được con chuột vàng
Once upon a time, there was a man who found a gold weasel while traveling. He put it inside of his shirt as he leaped for joy. Traveling on, he reached a river where he took off his clothes for crossing. Subsequently, the gold weasel changed into a poisonous snake. Nevertheless, the man did not throw it out and kept it in the shirt. Deeply grateful, the snake changed back into pure gold. A stupid man nearby who saw it with his own eyes, took it for granted that it should always turned out that way. He then put a poisonous snake inside of his shirt. He got bitten and died soon after.
Xưa người đi đường được con chuột bằng vàng, thích quá bỏ vào bọc đi. Đến bên sông, người ấy cổi áo định qua sông, tức thời con chuột vàng biến thành con rắn độc. Người ấy nghĩ: “Thà bị rắn độc cắn chết, cũng cứ mang đi, chứ không vứt bỏ” – chắc tâm người ấy ngầm-cảm là thế nào nó cũng trở lại vàng. – Mãi mãi ngồi bên bờ sông, người ấy thấy con rắn độc biến thành rắn thực, không trở lại vàng nữa, mới bảo: “Ô, nó thường mãi vậy à!” Nói rồi người ấy cứ liều bắt con rắn độc bỏ vào bọc, bị rắn độc cắn chết ngay.
This is also held to be true with the stupid of the world. On seeing those who have done good works and in turn have obtained benefit, people start to attach themselves to Buddhism. They are not motivated by faith but greed. They will finally fall into evil paths after death, like that man died of snakebites.
Người ngu ở đời thấy làm việc thiện được lợi, tâm họ không có chân-thực, chỉ vì lợi-dưỡng mà bám vào thiện-pháp ấy thôi, nên sau khi mất đi họ phải sa vào các ngả ác, như người bắt rắn độc bị nó cắn chết vậy!
