A university student while visiting Gasan asked him: “Have you ever read the Christian Bible?”
“No, read it to me,” said Gasan.
Một sinh viên đại học đến viếng ngài Gasan và hỏi: “Thầy đã bao giờ đọc Kinh Thánh của đạo Thiên chúa chưa?”
Ngài Gasan đáp: “Chưa, đọc ta nghe xem.”
The student opened the Bible and read from St. Matthew: “And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They toil not, neither do they spin, and yet I say unto you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these… Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.”
Người sinh viên mở cuốn Kinh Thánh và đọc trong phần thánh Matthew: “…Và tại sao anh em phải lo lắng về áo mặc? Hãy suy xét việc những hoa huệ ngoài đồng mọc lên như thế nào. Chúng không làm lụng cực nhọc, cũng không kéo sợi. Tuy thế, Thầy bảo cho các anh em biết rằng, ngay cả vua Salomon dù vinh hoa tột bậc cũng không ăn mặc đẹp được như một trong các bông hoa ấy… Vậy nên đừng lo lắng về ngày mai, vì ngày mai cứ để ngày mai lo…”
Do not be sad for tomorrow, my dear – Đừng buồn chi cho ngày mai, em ơi
“Do not be sad for tomorrow, my dear,
Because of tomorrow will be a tomorrow solution,
But tomorrow is Monday, you should not feel sad …”
“Đừng buồn chi cho ngày mai, em ơi,
Vì ngày mai cứ để ngày mai lo,
Nhưng ngày mai là Thứ hai, em đừng có buồn…”
Gasan said: “Whoever uttered those words I consider an enlightened man.”
The student continued reading: “Ask and it shall be given you, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you. For everyone that asketh receiveth, and he that seeketh findeth, and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened.”
Gasan remarked: “That is excellent. Whoever said that is not far from Buddhahood.”
Gasan nói: “Ai nói ra được những lời ấy, ta cho đó là một người giác ngộ.”
Người sinh viên tiếp tục đọc: “…Anh em cứ xin thì sẽ được cho, cứ tìm thì sẽ thấy, cứ gõ thì cửa sẽ mở. Vì hễ ai xin thì nhận được, ai tìm thì sẽ thấy, ai gõ thì cửa sẽ mở ra cho.”
Gasan nhận xét: “Tuyệt lắm! Ai đã nói ra điều đó thật không còn xa quả Phật.”
